I have graduated. After 8 full weeks of bed rest, I now have “moving around the house” privileges. I still can’t really *do* much (lift things, stand for long periods of time, etc.), and I can’t go anywhere, but I can move! I celebrated last night by standing in the kitchen and making pumpkin chocolate chip [...]

First Day of Fall!

It’s official – fall is here. Time to break out the cozy sweaters, slippers, scarves, and put away the air conditioner. To ring in the first day of fall I think two warm mugs of cider are on the dessert menu.
Earlier today we had yet another weekly ultrasound with the maternal-fetal surgeon. Abby’s cervix is [...]
Fieldtrip

Sara chaperoned Sprout and me on a brief field trip this afternoon. I walked down the stairs, outside, and just two houses down to the school to vote. Probably more walking than I should have done, but it was too late to get an absentee ballot. And there are only 3 houses *closer* to our [...]

25 weeks

And all is well. No pictures this week–they tend to do a detailed ultrasound only every other week. And this was an other, so it was a quickie. But my cervix is still holding up–it’s pretty much open until the cerclage (hey, it’s a heavy Sprout pushing down on it!), but the cerclage is working [...]

This made me sob. I’d like to blame pregnancy hormones, but I’m pretty sure I would have cried regardless. You should have seen me watching the documentary on baby baboons last week.
Gus is a tender lion too. He’s getting good at cuddling without putting any weight on my belly [...]
Long but not strong

Yesterday, at our weekly appointment with the maternal-fetal medicine doctor, we saw why exactly I’m on bed rest. He was measuring my cervix on the ultrasound, and noted that it looked even longer than last week. I asked how, exactly, that can be true, since it doesn’t really grow. He said, “well, [...]

Ever seen Alien, the first installment of the Alien films with Sigourney Weaver? Whether you have or not, you’re probably familiar with the infamous scene of the baby alien bursting out of a man’s stomach. Well, Sprout is like a less violent version of the alien.* In the past few days Abby’s stomach has started [...]
