I have graduated. After 8 full weeks of bed rest, I now have “moving around the house” privileges. I still can’t really *do* much (lift things, stand for long periods of time, etc.), and I can’t go anywhere, but I can move! I celebrated last night by standing in the kitchen and making pumpkin chocolate chip [...]

First Day of Fall!

It’s official – fall is here. Time to break out the cozy sweaters, slippers, scarves, and put away the air conditioner. To ring in the first day of fall I think two warm mugs of cider are on the dessert menu.
Earlier today we had yet another weekly ultrasound with the maternal-fetal surgeon. Abby’s cervix is [...]

And all is well. No pictures this week–they tend to do a detailed ultrasound only every other week. And this was an other, so it was a quickie. But my cervix is still holding up–it’s pretty much open until the cerclage (hey, it’s a heavy Sprout pushing down on it!), but the cerclage is working [...]
24 weeks = viable

So at 24 weeks 1 day, Sprout has reached the first magic milestone – viability. If he were to come out today, his chances of survival are good. Sara got me/us a cupcake to celebrate. That said, I do not want a 24 week baby in the NICU. So I plan on keeping him in.

This made me sob. I’d like to blame pregnancy hormones, but I’m pretty sure I would have cried regardless. You should have seen me watching the documentary on baby baboons last week.
Gus is a tender lion too. He’s getting good at cuddling without putting any weight on my belly [...]

Yesterday, at our weekly appointment with the maternal-fetal medicine doctor, we saw why exactly I’m on bed rest. He was measuring my cervix on the ultrasound, and noted that it looked even longer than last week. I asked how, exactly, that can be true, since it doesn’t really grow. He said, “well, [...]

Ever seen Alien, the first installment of the Alien films with Sigourney Weaver? Whether you have or not, you’re probably familiar with the infamous scene of the baby alien bursting out of a man’s stomach. Well, Sprout is like a less violent version of the alien.* In the past few days Abby’s stomach has started [...]
22 Weeks and then some

Here we are, back from the missing. We have both been exhausted, stressed, and I am still recovering from a horrible cold/flu-like thingie-ma-jiggie (sp?). Not much has been happening, hence the lack of posts. We’re pretty boring lately. I have, however, started rearranging the rooms and turning Abby’s office into the nursery, since it’s going [...]
21 weeks and all is well

Today was my weekly outing to the doctor’s. That’s right, in the past two weeks, I’ve left the house twice–both times to go to the dr. I don’t get out much.
But good news! My cervix has doubled in size in the past two weeks. The cerclage is working (in that the cervix is closed tight), [...]
